Obama names another LGBT to OPM

The Obama administration has appointed lesbian attorney Elaine Kaplan as general counsel for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, where she will serve under the office’s gay director, John Berry, according to a source familiar with the appointment.

Kaplan has worked as senior deputy general counsel for the National Treasury Employees Union in Washington since 2004. She began working as an attorney for the NTEU in 1984 and became known as an expert in federal workforce issues. The NTEU represents federal workers at the Department of the Treasury as well as workers in other federal agencies.

Obama's disapproving letter of Prop 8 not used by Campaign

So here is yet another mishap of the No on Prop 8 campaign. There was a letter written from at the time presidential candidate Barack Obama to the Alice B. Toklas democratic club about his disapproval of Proposition 8. This letter was NEVER used. This came out after a recent "No on Prop 8" town hall meeting that took place in San Francisco last month. This would have been really helpful seeing as how the Yes campaign sent out mailers with Obama's picture with quotes about how he does not support same-sex marriages. Come on! Really?! Use that thing located about 4 inches above your shoulders.

Obama appoints gay man to Office of National AIDS Policy

Well thank goodness...

Jeffrey S. Crowley, MPH, has been named Director of the Office of National AIDS Policy, the White House announced today. Crowley is currently Senior Research Scholar at Georgetown University’s Health Policy Institute.

Hilda Solis Confirmed as Labor Secretary

The last of President Obama’s Cabinet nominees pending before the Senate was confirmed Tuesday, as Labor Secretary. Hilda Solis won approval from 80 out of 97 voting senators. Labor groups have been aggressively pushing for Solis, and immediately applauded her confirmation.

President Barack Obama has appointed Shin Inouye as the White House official spokesperson to gay publications. This brings the total number of openly gay White House appointees to 19.
