Gay Rights Activist in the Making

Ethan McNamee is not your average third grader as you will see in this clip from a Gay Rights Rally he organized and gave this very eloquent speech at. These are the leaders of the generations to come and it is a great site to see.

Homos Are A Hoot!

So one of my coworkers ran across this website homosareahoot.com who are selling an extremely cute shirt and part of the proceeds go to an LGBT non-profit. Check it out. I just bought one this morning. They are not take expensive and would be great for the up coming PRIDE festivities.

Prop 8 Ruling Soon

The California Supreme Court will soon announce it’s ruling on the validity of Prop 8. To be informed via email directly from the court visit: http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/courts/supreme/highprofile/prop8.htm

If a Bullet Were to Enter my Brain Let it Destroy Every Closet

Shortly before he died in 1978, openly gay San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk made some extraordinarily prescient audio recordings. On one recording, he famously said, “If a bullet should enter my brain, let it destroy every closet door.”

Today would have been Harvey’s 79th birthday but for Dan White’s bullet.

May 22nd, Harvey Milk Day, is a good time to reflect on whether we have heeded his call to live openly and fight hard for true equality. Would Harvey be proud of where we are in 2009? The truth is I think he’d be celebrating on Castro Street some days and marching up the National Mall on others.

6th Grader prohited to me presenation about Harvey Milk

First students can't perform RENT at a high school in orange county because (GASP) it deals with real lives of the LGBT community and now this poor girl, is San Diego, cannot deliver her presentation of Harvey Milk's life because it violated the school's sex education policy. WHAT?? WHY?? Because he was GAY ... just tell the truth. This is complete bullshit.

Anyways here is the whole story by the San Diego Union Tribune.

Victory Fund on new Supreme Court Justice

The Washington press corps was briefly fascinated last week by the idea of an openly gay or lesbian Supreme Court nominee. The spark that lit the media forest fire was an innocent-enough post on the Victory Fund's blog, GayPolitics.com, pointing out that at least one possible nominee on media shorlist was an open lesbian.

The resulting mainstream media coverage made it seem like we had launched a campaign to pressure President Obama to pick an openly gay person for the job. We did not.

What we did do was respond to multiple media inquiries to emphasize that qualified individuals who happen to be openly gay deserve consideration, and that their sexual orientation should not bar them from public service. We believe this not just about judicial appointments, but also about the thousands of Executive Branch appointments President Obama will make throughout his presidency.

This is the man that I work with and greatly respect.

Coke in the Air

This is absolutely hysterical...

A Spanish study shows that there's cocaine in the air in Madrid and Barcelona. For those of you that didn't bust into a kayak and start paddling your ass across the Atlantic ocean upon hearing this news, I will go on.

According to MSNBC, scientists found traces of amphetamines, opiates, cannabinoids and lysergic acid (street name: The Wino Breakfast) at two air quality control stations in each city. It's no shock that the amount of cokey in the air grows thicker on the weekends.

Harvey Milk Day -- Coming Soon

The California Senate has approved a day of special recognition for slain San Francisco sopervisor and gay rights pioneer Harvey Milk by a vote of 24-14. The day would fall on May 22, Milk's birthday.
The measure now moves to the Assembly. Governor Schwarzenegger vetoed the measure in October 2008.

Stonewall Resolution

Reps. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Barney Frank (D-MA), and Jared Polis (D-CO), yesterday introduced a resolution recognizing the upcoming 40th anniversary of the Stonewall riots late next month.

Wrote Baldwin in a press release: "Stonewall is an essential piece of American history that catalyzed the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) movement for equal rights. On June 28, 1969, during a climate of fear and terror against the LGBT community in New York and nationally, the New York Police Department conducted a raid of the Stonewall Inn, a bar in New York’s Greenwich Village frequented by the LGBT community. Bruised, shocked, angry and fed up, patrons of the bar organized spontaneous demonstrations outside the bar and onto the streets of New York City. Protests continued during the next few days. This watershed moment is the symbolic genesis of the gay rights movement in the U.S."

Go Gay Elected Officials!!

Lawrence Kings Updates

News comes out of California that a Ventura County Judge ruled that the parents of Lawrence King, the young boy who was shot twice in the head by his homophobic classmate early last year, can sue his foster home, Casa Pacifica, for negligence. His parents and the judge believe that there is just cause that the foster home counseling and allowing King to express his sexuality and gender identity via make-up and high heel shoes endangered the child and led to his death.
-Bilerico

This is BULL SHIT! So because the foster home allowed Lawrence to be who he was they are getting punished. What is worse is that his parents are profiting off of their son's tragic death. I would be really interested in finding out what they plan on doing with it.

Go Uruguay!!

Though it still requires President Tabare Vazquez's signature, Uruguay is set to lift a ban on gays serving openly in the military, which has been in place for more than two decades.
