dailymail.co.uk reports on a story about faires!

Fairies who frolic at the bottom of gardens in New Addington, near Croydon in South London. Mrs Bacon, 55, said she was not even looking through the camera at the time she took the picture. Instead she simply clicked the button while holding it at arm's length out of the back door while chatting with relatives in her kitchen after dinner. Astonished by what she saw when she glimpsed at the picture, she has spent months seeking a rational explanation. But after scouring the internet for pictures of butterflies, moths and beetles that might match it, she has drawn a blank. 'I think it must be a fairy,' she said yesterday as she made the picture public for the first time.

'I used to like fairy stories as a child, but I can't claim to have ever seen one before or since,' she said.

Let Your Voices Be Heard

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has the chance to veto the Harvey Milk Day Bill as he did last year because of the pressure and outrage of the oppositing religious extremists. Harvey Milk Day would be May 22 dedicated to honor the slain gay rights hero. It would not make schools close for the holiday or celebrate the day in any way.

Voice you opinion to the governor! He needs to hear input from people who understand the significance of teaching about the legacy of Harvey Milk.

Deadline approaching for Candidate Training

GLLI Candidate & Campaign Training

Think of it as a boot camp for potential LGBT candidates. The deadline is nearing for LGBT hopefuls to sign up for the Gay & Lesbian Leadership Institute’s Candidate and Campaign Training in Denver, CO. This coming Tuesday, August 25, is the last day to apply for the training program running September 24-27.

The GLLI’s training program assists LGBT hopefuls in learning the ins and outs of running a campaign as an out candidate. Attendees will learn about raising enough money to compete, how to formulate a political message that allows candidates to run as more than just an LGBT candidate, and how to produce a winning campaign. Candidates will even participate in an intense campaign simulation over the four days in Denver.

By taking the training program to Colorado, the GLLI will be paying a visit to the state that gave us one of our most significant victories in 2008: the first gay man elected as a non-incumbent to the US House of Representatives, Jared Polis. Back in 2006, Polis prepared for his historic run by participating in the GLLI’s Candidate & Campaign Training. Three years later, Polis is crafting legislation in the House and the program that helped put him there is coming to Denver.

Additional training alumni include the first Latina lesbian sheriff elected in the United States, Dallas’s Lupe Valdez, and the first lesbian elected to the North Carolina state Senate, Senator Julia Boseman. These remarkable candidates, and many more, started their campaign journey by participating in this renowned training.

The deadline to start your path to public service is Tuesday, so apply now!

From the mouth of Ms. Angelou

“I would ask every man and every woman who’s had the blessing of having children, ‘Would you deny your son or your daughter the ecstasy of finding someone to love?' To love someone takes a lot of courage. So how much more is one challenged when the love is of the same sex and the laws say, ‘I forbid you from loving this person’?” - Maya Angelou, phoning New York state Sen. Shirley L. Huntley (D-Queens) and asking that she support marriage equality.

Latina named to Supreme Court, Honorable Sonia Sotomayor

President Obama will nominate appeals court judge Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court on today, officials said, making her the first Hispanic in history to be elevated to the high court.

Sotomayor, 54, who has been a federal judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit since 1998, has a formidable resume. From 1992 to 1998, Sotomayor was a federal judge for the U. S. District Court Southern District of New York. She served as an assistant district attorney for New York County from 1979 to 1984. Sotomayor also worked in private practice for the New York-based law firm Pavia & Harcourt from 1984 to 1992.

Sotomayor's Bio

Well if it was not going to be an LGBT person I am as extremely pleased that is it an overly quailfied Latina Woman. Go Sonia! Show those white men how Latinas do it :)

If a Bullet Were to Enter my Brain Let it Destroy Every Closet

Shortly before he died in 1978, openly gay San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk made some extraordinarily prescient audio recordings. On one recording, he famously said, “If a bullet should enter my brain, let it destroy every closet door.”

Today would have been Harvey’s 79th birthday but for Dan White’s bullet.

May 22nd, Harvey Milk Day, is a good time to reflect on whether we have heeded his call to live openly and fight hard for true equality. Would Harvey be proud of where we are in 2009? The truth is I think he’d be celebrating on Castro Street some days and marching up the National Mall on others.

Victory Fund on new Supreme Court Justice

The Washington press corps was briefly fascinated last week by the idea of an openly gay or lesbian Supreme Court nominee. The spark that lit the media forest fire was an innocent-enough post on the Victory Fund's blog, GayPolitics.com, pointing out that at least one possible nominee on media shorlist was an open lesbian.

The resulting mainstream media coverage made it seem like we had launched a campaign to pressure President Obama to pick an openly gay person for the job. We did not.

What we did do was respond to multiple media inquiries to emphasize that qualified individuals who happen to be openly gay deserve consideration, and that their sexual orientation should not bar them from public service. We believe this not just about judicial appointments, but also about the thousands of Executive Branch appointments President Obama will make throughout his presidency.

Coke in the Air

This is absolutely hysterical...

A Spanish study shows that there's cocaine in the air in Madrid and Barcelona. For those of you that didn't bust into a kayak and start paddling your ass across the Atlantic ocean upon hearing this news, I will go on.

According to MSNBC, scientists found traces of amphetamines, opiates, cannabinoids and lysergic acid (street name: The Wino Breakfast) at two air quality control stations in each city. It's no shock that the amount of cokey in the air grows thicker on the weekends.

Harvey Milk Day -- Coming Soon

The California Senate has approved a day of special recognition for slain San Francisco sopervisor and gay rights pioneer Harvey Milk by a vote of 24-14. The day would fall on May 22, Milk's birthday.

Stonewall Resolution

Reps. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Barney Frank (D-MA), and Jared Polis (D-CO), yesterday introduced a resolution recognizing the upcoming 40th anniversary of the Stonewall riots late next month.

Wrote Baldwin in a press release: "Stonewall is an essential piece of American history that catalyzed the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) movement for equal rights. On June 28, 1969, during a climate of fear and terror against the LGBT community in New York and nationally, the New York Police Department conducted a raid of the Stonewall Inn, a bar in New York’s Greenwich Village frequented by the LGBT community. Bruised, shocked, angry and fed up, patrons of the bar organized spontaneous demonstrations outside the bar and onto the streets of New York City. Protests continued during the next few days. This watershed moment is the symbolic genesis of the gay rights movement in the U.S."

Lawrence Kings Updates

News comes out of California that a Ventura County Judge ruled that the parents of Lawrence King, the young boy who was shot twice in the head by his homophobic classmate early last year, can sue his foster home, Casa Pacifica, for negligence. His parents and the judge believe that there is just cause that the foster home counseling and allowing King to express his sexuality and gender identity via make-up and high heel shoes endangered the child and led to his death.
-Bilerico

This is BULL SHIT! So because the foster home allowed Lawrence to be who he was they are getting punished. What is worse is that his parents are profiting off of their son's tragic death. I would be really interested in finding out what they plan on doing with it.

Victory in Maine!!

Kennebec Journal reports:

The Maine Senate this morning passed a bill that would allow same-sex marriage in Maine. The Senate voted 20-15 in favor of the measure. Supporters say it would end discrimination against gays and lesbians and opponents say the proposal is an attack against the institution of marriage.
This morning’s vote means the bill has cleared its first hurdle in the Legislature. However, it still needs to pass through the House of the Representatives

Go Barney!

This is why I do what I do. Getting people from our community elected to public office puts a face to these laws that affect us. Having him in that room and able to give this speak to his colleagues really show the power behind having an LGBT person at the table making the decision.

House Passes Matthew Shepard Act

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives approved the addition of sexual orientation to the Federal Hate Crimes Bill. Also known as the Matthew Shepard Act, the addition was passed 249-175 over a series of Republican objections, including some that denied that Matthew Shepard's killing was actually a hate crime.

Go here to see how your representative voted. Did they vote the way you would have?

She will be missed.

Matthew Shepard Bill to be Voted on Tomorrow!!

I received this email written by NGLTF (National Gay & Lesbian Task Force)

I don't know if you've heard yet, but a comprehensive hate crimes bill (H.R. 1913) has passed the House Judiciary Committee and is about to come up to a vote in the full House of Representatives. I've joined with the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Action Fund to ask my representatives to pass this legislation without delay.

We've been trying for years to get hate crimes legislation passed -- and right now is our best opportunity to finally win. Will you please take just a few minutes to contact your representatives today and urge them to pass comprehensive federal hate crimes legislation?
http://www.kintera.org/site/lookup.asp?c=grLKK1PHLqF&b=5117035

Every hour, every day, at least one hate crime offense is committed somewhere in the United States. Of those attacked, it's estimated that at least 15% of hate crimes are related to a person's perceived or actual sexual orientation or gender identity. But the biggest crime here is that this very same legislation that would help protect the most vulnerable communities affected by hate crimes has been before Congress many times, yet we've never seen it become law.

Please, take action right now to help us make sure that this time, our legislators hear us loud and clear and pass federal hate crimes legislation.

My Apologies

Gay Word of the Day

The Gay bomb is an informal name for a theoretical non-lethal chemical weapon, which a US Air Force research laboratory speculated about producing. The possibility was canvassed that a strong aphrodisiac could be dropped on enemy troops, ideally one which would also cause "homosexual behavior". The documents described the aphrodisiac weapon as "distasteful but completely non-lethal." Wright Laboratory won the 2007 Ig Nobel Peace Prize for "instigating research & development on a chemical weapon—the so-called 'gay bomb' / 'poof bomb' —that will make enemy soldiers become sexually irresistible to each other."

On Thursday afternoon, after returning home from school, fifth-grader Jaheem quietly went into his room and hanged himself. His 10-year-old sister, Yerralis, also a fifth-grader, discovered Jaheem’s dead body.

WHEN IS THIS GOING TO STOP!
When will schools and communities and people realize that children are committing SUICIDE because teachers and youth workers are "keeping to their faith" and not stopping punk ass little fuckers from teasing other students. I mean I am absolutely positive if a student was bullying another student using offensive racial or gender based slurs that student would be suspended/reprimanded for their actions. However, when these comments are homophobic and considered to be used too often to catch every student using them then it is OK for teachers not to take action. So because it would be TOO HARD to make students stop using the words gay and fag we are just going to let the LGBT youth affected by this bare the burden and have to deal with it. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!
HOW MANY MORE LGBT YOUTH HAVE TO TAKE THEIR OWN LIVES BEFORE SOMEONE IN POWER GETS OFF THEIR ASSES AND DOES SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

Gay Word of the Day

Twink: is a term used among gay & bisexual males to describe young men in their late teens or early twenties who are slim and have little to no body hair. The term originates from the snack food twinkie, which is tanned on the outside and has cream filling. The connotation was that "twinks" are delicious, but have little substance and are not considered for long-term relationships. The term can be used pejoratively in the gay community but is mostly a neutral term used for identification purposes.

Stop being a JERK!

So I stumbled across a blog the other day that happen to have a posting that I really needed to read that day. The name of the blog is ZenHabits and the blog posting was The Biggest Waste of Time. It explains all the time that is wasted but people when they say Yes when they mean No and commit themselves to something that they don't really want to do.

The author of this blog does one posting a day and I haven't been paying attention the past couple days, but the one today happen to catch my eye. 5 Tiny Steps to Quit Being Such a Jerk.

It’s so sad because I see so many inconsiderate people around me every day — people who only care about what they want and don’t think of others, don’t see things from the perspective of other people. People who cut you off in traffic, who cut in front of you in line, who say rude things, who take your parking spot, who hurt your feelings. I try to brush these things off, but it’s unfortunate that so many people are so inconsiderate.

Thing is, they aren’t trying to be mean or rude … they just aren’t thinking of others. And I don’t think they’re aware of this. I think they think they’re being perfectly fine, and don’t think of themselves as inconsiderate

Get the 5 simply tips here and keep your eye on this blog to live a more simple and satisfying life.

2M4M.org ...

So this is a great story.

National Organization for Marriage (NOM) is the organization that put out that ridiculous children-of-the-corn-esque commercial "A Storm is Coming." Which has been ridiculed on national television because of the actors used in the commercial. The head of NOM Maggie Gallagher had announced the launch of the anti-LGBT campaign "2 Million 4 Marraige" (2M4M) to counter the recent LGBT Victories for marrige equality. Now first off, any homo in thier right mind would have changed that campaign name faster than dorothy could click her heels. Second, and here comes the funny part, is make sure that before you launch a national campaign you have all your chickens in a row. Apparently, a man watched the press release of this new campaign 2M4M and did a quick google search for the website 2M4M.org and realized that it was not taken yet... and so he took it. Not only did he steal their website he changed 2 Million for Marriage into 2 Men 4 Marriage. The site is still very new and he is getting in up a running but you should check it out. I have to say the NOM is having the best week ever!! HAHA

Amazon's "Glitch" on LGBT Literature...

Amazon.com decided that it was going to de-rank all LGBT literature and then categorize it (no matter how "adult" the material) as "adult content" or "for Mature audiences." This not only is completely ridiculous but also fucked up. It makes it harder for these items to be found, because they do not appear in a regular search, and cuts profits from the LGBT authors who produced the books. They have claimed it is merely a "glitch" and that it is in the process of being fixed. Here is a full list of the items that have been deem inappropriate for the public's eyes.

Gay Word of the Day

No Homo - is a term used when something can be mistaken as gay in nature, and the person wants to reassure the audience that it was not meant in a homosexual context. The term is most often used in an offensive manner because it embraces the idea that an association with gays is negative.

Vermont gets Same-Sex Marriage!!

The Vermont House has voted 100-49 to override Governor Douglas’ veto. This makes Vermont the fourth U.S. state to offer full marriage rights to same-sex couples, but the first to do so legislatively. Iowa, Massachussets, and Connecticut enacted marriage equality only after court decisions required it. California’s legislature twice passed legislation to legalize marriage for same-sex couples, but the efforts were blocked by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s veto.
